This two-day experience is designed specifically for our deaf and hard-of-hearing community — a welcoming, fully guided introduction to the art of fly fishing. No experience needed. Just bring yourself and a sense of adventure. Waders, fly rods, and flies are all included.

Day One
Learn to Cast & Read the Water

Tuesday, July 15

Day one is all about building confidence and foundation. Perfect for total beginners, this full day on the water gives you everything you need to understand fly fishing from the ground up at a pace that works for you.

  • Introduction to fly fishing gear: rods, reels, lines, leaders, and flies
  • Casting instruction: learn the basic fly cast in a relaxed, hands-on setting
  • How to “read the water”: understanding where fish hold, how currents work, and what to look for in a stream
  • Entomology basics: learning which insects fish are feeding on and why it matters
  • Knot tying and rigging your setup
  • Wading safely in moving water with full wader gear provided
  • Practice time on a beginner-friendly stretch of river

Day Two
Alpine Lake Adventure in RMNP

Wednesday, July 16

  • Morning hike into a backcountry alpine lake inside Rocky Mountain National Park
  • Fly fish for Colorado’s native cutthroat trout in crystal-clear high-altitude waters
  • Guided instruction continues: casting on still water and lake edges
  • Take in breathtaking mountain scenery above 10,000 feet
  • Catch-and-release fishing to preserve the wild fishery
  • Share the experience with fellow participants in a supportive group setting
